NatureBrain has officially signed its first large-scale nature restoration project in Pola de Allande, Asturias — covering 800 hectares of mid and high-altitude Atlantic forest. This milestone marks the beginning of on-site deployment for our full AI-driven technology platform, integrating monitoring, verification and ecological forecasting directly in the field.
Why This Milestone Matters for Nature-Based Investment
The Allande restoration area sits inside a Special Conservation Area within the Cantabrian Mountains — one of Europe’s most biodiverse landscapes. As a result, this project becomes a living case study where advanced ecological science meets scalable investment frameworks.
Core Ecological Impact Areas
🌲 Atlantic Forest Recovery
The project focuses on restoring native mixed Atlantic forest dominated by sessile oak (Quercus robur), beech (Fagus sylvatica), birch (Betula pubescens), sweet chestnut (Castanea sativa) and Atlantic pine (Pinus pinaster).
These species contribute to climate resilience, carbon sequestration and long-term landscape connectivity.
🐻 Protection of Endangered Species
The site is habitat to the critically endangered Cantabrian brown bear (Ursus arctos), with roughly 370 surviving individuals, as well as the Cantabrian capercaillie — a species that lost 70% of its historic range in 30 years. Iberian wolves, Pyrenean desmans and otters also occupy this territory, making recovery efforts biologically strategic.
💧Aquifer & Watershed Protection
Forest restoration will enhance water flow regulation, protect regional aquifers and improve soil stability — benefits that directly support rural communities. Healthy forests act as natural infrastructure, reducing erosion and strengthening watershed resilience.
🌿 Biodiversity Enhancement
The project aims to improve habitat connectivity, pollinator populations, forest structure and degraded ecosystem function. Moreover, these interventions support long-term wildlife corridors and ecological processes disrupted by historical land-use change.
More Than a Restoration Project — A Technological Field Laboratory
This initiative is not only ecological — it is a real-world testing ground where AI, remote sensing and data intelligence demonstrate that nature can be measured, verified and financed at scale. Here, conservation science evolves into nature-based investment infrastructure.
NatureBrain thanks its partners, advisors and local communities in Asturias for making this milestone possible — and for their commitment to a regenerative future.
